Low Profile Ceiling Fans - A Refined Look

Are you looking into low profile ceiling fans?  It’s always nice to have a ceiling fan at least once in your house, it ads an element of flair and homeliness as well.  Sometimes though, it may seem like it’s not possible to stick a fan into your living space, due to it being a bit too congested.  This is where low profile ceiling fans come into play.

Low profile ceiling fans are basically regular fans without the downrod.  Normally fans have a thin rod that comes down from the ceiling and to that rod the base of the fan is attached.  This is fine in rooms where there are high ceilings or plenty of room above for the fan to hand down from.  There are however rooms where this is not the case and so steps need to be taken to ensure that the fan does not get in the way.

This is usually a problem in rooms where the ceiling is less than 8 feet.  Now normally you don’t ever see that,  however one case in which you might is if you’ve refurnished your basement.  Refurnished basements tend to have a lower head clearance than the upper floors, so if you want to stick a fan down there, you may run into the problem of it not having enough head clearance.  This is where the low profile ceiling fans, AKA the flush mount ceiling fan or hugger ceiling fan comes into play.

These fans are basically the same fan without the downrod.  The base of the fan is attached directly to the ceiling.  Now if you’re not sure which one of these to get, here’s a quick look at some of your options:

Minka Aire Concept II Flush Mount

Here’s a nice mid range fan that comes in at around $250.  It comes with a 53mm x 5mm spinner motor as well as 3 white veneer fan blades.  These blades have a 44” span and they tilt at a 14 degree angle.  This fan also comes with the standard fan speeds, a light dimmer, as well as a remote control.

Hunter Low Profile III

Here’s a fan that’s more in the budget range, coming in at around $100.  This is a 52 inch fan which has 5 blades that are all white.  This also comes with what is known as the “Whisper Wind” motor which ensures that it will operate quietly when turned on.  Again, you get the ability to change the speeds with this fan as well as a light fixture attached to the middle of the fan.

Now if you’re looking for additional low profile ceiling fans, I’ve only covered a few here, there are plenty more to see and choose from.  I’d suggest doing some more browsing around before you go out and make your purchase.
